What are the uses of acrylamide?

Acrylamide is an organic compound with the chemical formula C3H5NO. Its appearance is a white crystalline powder. It is soluble in water, ethanol, ether, and acetone, but insoluble in benzene and hexane. Acrylamide is the most important and simplest of the acrylamide series and has a wide range of uses. Specifically:

1. Used as raw materials for organic synthesis and raw materials for polymer materials;

2. Acrylamide polymer is soluble in water, so it is used to produce flocculants in water treatment, especially for the flocculation of protein and starch in water. In addition to flocculation, there are thickening properties, shear resistance, resistance reduction, dispersion and other excellent properties.

3. When used as a soil conditioner, it can increase the water permeability and moisture retention of the soil;

4. Used as an auxiliary agent for paper fillers, it can increase the strength of paper to replace starch and water-soluble ammonia resin;

5. Used as chemical grouting agent, used for plugging of tunneling, oil well drilling, mines and dams in civil engineering;

6. Used as a fiber modifier, it can improve the physical properties of synthetic fibers;

7. Used as a preservative, it can be used for the anti-corrosion of underground components;

8. It can also be used as additives in the food industry, dispersants of pigments, printing and dyeing pastes;

9. With phenolic resin solution, it can be made into a binder of glass fiber, and together with rubber, it can be made into a pressure-sensitive adhesive, etc. Wald acrylamide products are especially suitable for adjusting the water absorption profile of oil field water injection wells. The product is mixed with initiators and injected into the high permeability layer zone of water injection wells, which can be polymerized into high viscosity polymers.
